Force isn’t power
Obvious?
I’ve made my clients over $60 million through the years. From start-ups to INC 500 to Fortune 500, I can tell you most miss this obvious point.
And honestly… I’ve missed this point more than once in my life!
Look, I’ve been in meetings surrounded by guys and gals with Wharton, Harvard and Princeton MBA’s and they miss this point.
The universal reaction is to use more force.
It’s perverse really, but seems the way we are wired.
- Work harder
- Yell louder
- Push back more forcefully
- Put in longer hours
- Manipulate
- Cheat
- Bully
- Throw more and more money
- Panic!
There’s a better way…
Think of a Jiu Jitsu class. You’d never hear a jiu jitsu instructor yelling at his student “Use more force” “Force the lock”.
What you will hear him saying is, “Get a better position” “Change the angle” “Get leverage”.
Look at this illustration —->
By finding something as simple as a lever, you can multiply your force by many times over. (And when we get to ideas and stratagems, it’s 100’s of times as we’ll discuss shortly).
And you are surrounded by these leverage points — when you learn to see them.
They are just waiting for you to take advantage of them.
As billionaire Paul Getty used to say, “See and Seize” them.
I’d like to share some of these leverage points, (and more about how to “seize” these laws and levers of power) with you.
